Fee changes starting April 1, 2025 (see section for details)
Each client will be given a receipt upon payment with the psychologist name and registration number for insurance purposes that the client can submit to their insurance company for reimbursement. Direct billing is also available for some insurance groups.
Prior to your appointment, please make sure that you check the following in order to ensure that your benefits will be covering part or all of the entire session.
What does my insurance company cover?
Most insurance companies will cover sessions by a Registered Psychologist or a Registered Provisional Psychologist. Some insurance companies may only cover sessions if there is written approval by the primary care physician. Some insurance companies may only cover services rendered by specific providers. Please check your policy ahead of time to ensure that there are no restrictions or unmet requirements within the policy.
How much does my insurance company cover?
Most policies have a maximum dollar per session that is covered completely. Be sure to confirm what your maximum is as the maximum benefits for counselling may also fall under the total maximum combined with other practitioners such as nutritionists, physiotherapists, acupuncturists, naturopaths, or chiropractors.
How many sessions does my insurance company cover?
Most policies have a maximum number of sessions or a maximum total of dollars allocated for therapy each benefit year. Again, be sure to confirm what your maximum is as the maximum benefits for counselling may also fall under the total maximum combined with other practitioners such as nutritionists, physiotherapists, acupuncturists, naturopaths, or chiropractors.
Will my insurance cover any treatment from a provisional psychologist?
Most policies cover treatment provided by a provisional psychologist at the same basis as a registered psychologist. Some insurance companies may not offer direct billing for provisional psychologists, but will still reimburse policy holders for services.
Will my insurance cover the cost of my assessment? My child's?
Some insurance policies cover the cost of only counselling treatment and the defined terms of treatment may vary from insurance company to insurance company. The fees associated with assessments typically include the comprehensive scoring, analysis, interpretation, and summary report of the assessment, which some insurance companies do not cover. Consulting with your insurance provider will help determine which costs are covered by your policy and which ones may not be.
